Warm Color Pumpkin

In Kindergarten, we had learned about the warm colors through many different projects.  One of the projects dealt with the field trip that their classes took to the Rocca Berry Farm pumpkin patch.  Students talked about what the pumpkins looked like- the outline wasn't a perfect circle or a straight line. We worked together to create a drawing of a pumpkin, then we put the warm color paint inside of the drawing.  Students were allowed the ability to mix together the warm colors within their pumpkin, this was a lot of fun for them.

We then started to create the background on the second day.  We talked about the cool colors and how they can be used to create a background.  Students painted with purple and blue in the sky and green for the grass.  We used some scratching with our brush end to create line designs in our sky and ground.  The next day students cut out their pumpkins and glued them onto their painted backgrounds.

Here are some of our warm color pumpkins:

First Grade Fall Printmaking

In First Grade we discussed the warm colors and their relation to fall.  We painted our background papers with acrylic paint, the students were allowed to create any type of design for their paper that they wanted.

We then learned about the printmaking process that Artists go through to create their printed artwork.  Students really enjoyed learning about the multiple steps it takes for a print to be created.  We also discussed the parts of a leaf and how they can all look different, but still have the same parts.

Students created their own leaf drawing, then transferred the image onto a foam plate.  This plate was used for their printing project onto their warm colored background.  Students also created movement lines in the background using white crayon and tempera paint dots.  The students did so well with this project!

Kindergarten Paul Klee Cat

Kindergarten looked at the artwork of Paul Klee.  We looked at the many shapes that he utilized within his pieces and we discussed what we saw.  I was inspired with this project idea from another art teacher's website, we focused on Klee's cat painting and we created our own shape cat.  The students used Oil Pastels to add color and we focused on the warm colors.  After the cats were colored in, the students outlined with black pastel and painted the background with black tempra paint.

The students had a lot of fun creating their own cat and the many shapes inside.
