Perspective Shapes

  In Third grade, we discussed perspective and how artists can use perspective in their work.  We looked at some artworks that used different types of perspective and how it helped to show distance, we even explored a bit of optical illusion artworks using perspective.  Students then were able to practice drawing in their sketchbooks using perspective and shapes.

  For our final artwork, students created a collage of papers they cut out and placed to create one point perspective.  They had a lot of fun with this style of artwork.

First Grade Weaving House

In First Grade, our first project had us looking at the art of weaving.  We talked about the patterns of motions that happen when any type of weaving is created.  We used colored construction paper to create our weaving artwork. 

After we finished our weaving, the First Graders discussed what the outside of many different types of homes look like.  The weaving was glued onto a paper and a roof was drawn to create the house.  Then, students drew their selected home details on another sheet of paper and glued them onto their artwork when finished.  When complete, the students were asked to Title their artworks.  It was fun to see the creative names they came up with for their artwork!

Second Grade Matisse Collage

Second Graders finished discussing Matisse and his artworks filled with color and shapes.  We also looked at the book When Pigcaso met Mootise, a humerous book which they enjoyed and shares some information about Matisse and his style of work.  I saw this project on another Art teacher's blog and could not wait to try it with second grade!

In this project, students learned about positive and negative space as well as organic and geometric shapes.  Inspired by Matisse, students created their own collages using these four art elements.  They turned out well, each class created such unique pieces!
